Go into your Wii System Options, find “Internet” and in there look for “Console Information”. So first, you need to get the MAC address for your Wii. Someone has made a website that makes a custom exploit just for your Wii!!! All you have to do is put in the MAC address of your Wii and it updates the exploit for you! Getting the Exploit ReadyĮxploiting the Wii is really easy. We only have Linux and Mac so we just formatted the whole 1TB drive as one partition. It’s only if you use Windows itself to do the formatting. From the stuff we read, if you are using Windows, creating FAT32 partitions is limited to 32GB but you don’t have this issue if you use a Mac, Linux or a special application on Windows. We used a 16GB Micro-SD card and a 1TB USB drive.
Both need to be formatted to FAT32 to work with the software we are using.
You also need to get your SD card and your external hard drive ready.
If your version is lower than 4.3, go to the third page in your options menu and update the software. If you go into your Wii Options menu the version number is in the top right like this: Before You Startįor this to work, you need to have your Nintendo Wii updated to firmware version 4.3 which is the latest and the last version that was released. Also, not all loaders will look for games on the SD card.
You can install games on the SD card but you won’t have much room so an external hard drive is better.
There’s been a lot of old games coming out on our Nintendo Switch lately that have been updated for the Switch, like Super Mario Galaxy, which was originally a Wii game (mum has been playing this a LOT).Īnyway… dad suggested we have a go at jailbreaking the Nintendo Wii just so we could do our first jailbreak and also put some homebrew on there. Even though it’s old it’s still an awesome platform. The Homebrew Wiki is here.ĭownloading the channel will use an invisible bug, called the Trucha Bug, and void your Wii's warranty. While going through one of dad’s many stashes of old computer and tech stuff the other day, we found his old Nintendo Wii. It has been replaced with bannerbomb, which works on System Menu versions 3.2 to 4.2 letterbomb, which works on System Menu 4.3 and Smash Stack, which works on all System Menu versions, but requires Super Smash Bros. As of System Menu 4.0, the Twilight Hack has been blocked. By talking to an NPC that loads Epona’s custom name (this name contained data for the soft mod) in the game, it sideloaded the channel to the Wii's memory. The channel was originally accessed by downloading a modified save file from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and playing the file.
Other programs can load full games from a USB device, or launch normal games with cheats. This channel is a freeware program that can be used to launch unofficial games and programs, as well as programs that can bypass the regional lockout or use normal DVDs (for program running movies will not work on Wii console made after a certain year because DVD commands were removed). The Homebrew Channel is a channel for Wii that was not made by Nintendo and is not supported by them.
